We will provide all basic materials for your course but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

One-day courses are non-residential but you are welcome to stay with us. Let us know when booking if you require accommodation or have any special requirements.

Drawing Techniques

This course focuses on the core elements of line, tone and texture using a variety of different drawing materials - soft pencils, graphite, stick charcoal and compressed charcoal, conte, pen and ink.

See how combining materials gives your work added interest.

Exploring Colour

A day for those keen to try out different colour media. Work in conte or pastel over painted washes or experiment with acrylic or oil. Try combining simple prints over paint or work on different types of paper

The course includes instruction on how to use colour effectively whether bold and colourful or dark and moody.

Mixed Media

This day course gives you the opportunity to try working in different media from charcoal and pastel to paint and even printing.

A taster day full of interrelating activities.

Life Drawing

This course will give you the opportunity to work from a life model for a day. We use one model for the morning session 10am -1pm and a different model for the afternoon session 2pm - 5pm, occasionally using the two models together. We have several models available (male and female). The studio works comfortably with up to eight artists.

The sessions are based around line and shape, form, tone and composition. The course encourages an approach to drawing as a means of learning to ‘see’, observing actual visual properties. You can try working in different ways, from large scale drawings to details, from quick 30 sec sketches to hour long poses. We tend to use the afternoon sessions for the longer poses working in paint and coloured pastels.
